I am compelled to make self-portraits as I have always been a keen observer of spaces and others, but rarely observe myself. I have always been a private person who chooses solitude over social gatherings. My gaze reveals my desire for privacy – either it is averted to avoid someone’s gaze, or it is directly focused on a viewer. I not only look at myself through the viewfinder, but I look at others as they look at me in the photograph. These self-portraits are made in locations where I occupy space on a daily basis. I invite others into my life regardless of my desire to be alone.
